Peugeot 205 - vibrations on the brakes - Johnnn

Another problem...(having sorted the ignition ballast)

When braking esp at higher speeds, there's a definite shuddering. It's speed-variable (ie faster at higher speeds). I first noticed it pulling off a motorway, but now even at slower speeds I notice it - keeping the brake pedal depressed, you can feel the force applied change as the wheels rotate.

It sounds like warped discs. 14 months ago it had the same problem & failed the MOT on 'uneven brake application' or somthing. Passed with new discs & pads.

Before I try the same remedy again, is there anything else I should be looking out for? Is it just bad luck to have a set of discs warp in just over a year? I've heard people talk about problems with struts/suspension and this causing vibration under braking.

Any suggestions welcome....

If you have the original Peugeot alloys, it is worth checking that they are not warped; I had a 309 (very similar to the 205) and had similar brake vibration.

Put new discs and pads on, still had it, had the rear drums skimmed and then discovered the nice round rear drums distorted oval when the wheels were bolted on because the wheels had warped!

It's on the steels. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get them balanced - but she's had new tyres since the new discs so they should have been re-balanced then.

Someone suggested that there might be something worn in the suspension? When you brake in reverse sometimes there is a big *CLUNK* from the front end. Has been doing this for ages, not every time...
