Hi there,

The other weekend my gearbox decided to pack in, I now have no second gear but have every other gear (thats the wierd part). However 1st gear is very hard to engage and sometime actually pops out of gear. Can anybody help me here? I have 2 noises, 1 when the car is in gear but with no acceleration and the other one sound like the drive shaft rubbing on something??

Will it not actually go into 2nd or does it go in but there is no drive.

Hi it will go in to second, without pressing the accelorator just using the clutch but as soon as i press the accelorator it pops out of gear and will not drive in 2nd at all.

Two possible scenarios:

1. Selctors rf gearshift worn.

Could be just a washer or more serious. Not engaging gears properly hence jumping out .

2. Something worng in gearbox.. - unlikely...as you have drive. But funny noises suggest an internal fault.

I would concur, get the gear linkage checked first.
