I don't know to be honest, but I looked up National Tyres for my Octavia 1.9 TDi PD and they do an oil and filter change for £31.50 (Castrol Edge 5w40 507.00 spec). Probably cheaper than doing it yourself.

Remove the plastic engine cover and unscrew the 14 sided oil filter cap - for which you need a special socket (cheap in Halfords and the like). Remove the cap and withdraw the cap + central "stick" and then pull the filter element out of the housing by hand.

Replacement elements come with 2 "O" rings which must be changed. The smaller one goes in a groove at the bottom of the "stick" and the larger fits above the threaded outer portion of the cap. The tightening torque is stamped on the cap. The element fits one way only and is marked.

Avoid all fast fit centres unless you want your car's undertray damaged, incorrectly refitted or the fixings lost. The alloy sump thread is also intolerant of gorilla handling.

Many thanks for that, sounds like fun, no wonder the dealer charges £120+ per hour............I bought the oil and filter, but..................perhaps they should do it!

Its a good motor so wouldnt want to hurt it.

Many thanks, jaycee9.

Don't be put off, it's a very easy engine to do an oil change on.

You don't even need to get under it if you have an oil suction device to put down the dip stick tube.

If the filter cap has been torqued correctly when last changed you can remove it with a strap wrench, but most garages seem to overtighten them requiring the special tool to remove.

When you have the filter out put a thin suction tube down the hole on the right hand side at the bottom of the filter housing & you will get another 1/2 pint of old oil from the oil cooler that would have otherwise been left in there.
