Volkwagon Beetle 2.0 petrol - Intermittent lack of power - mazda60

Hi all,

My daughter has a 51 plated 2.0 litre Beetle which has done 79k .She has experienced three occassions in the last week of power loss when she has been motorway driving and wishing to overtake .

When she puts her foot down nothing happens !! .

It does not do it every time, just internmittently. She always keeps the tank about half full of fuel.

She has left the car with me while she is away for a fortnight to sort out the problem.

My only experience of this was with an old BMW that didithe same thing and in the end that required a new disributor cap and rotor arm.

Can anybody offer any advice as to best way to solve the fault.

Thanks

Mazda60.

Lots of possible faults on these but very difficult to guess.A diagnostic check may show fault codes but not necessarily related to your problem.Favourites are air mass meter ,ht/spark plug leads or lambda sensor and coolant temp sensor.hth
