MOT certificate wrong - David Villa

Had my car serviced and MOT'd yesterday-good news it passed.

However, when I got home I noticed the reg number on the MOT cerificate was incorrect-they had put its old reg number on(last year I put a cherished number plate on it).

The dealership seem to be at a loss what to do-I phoned theservice dept up this morning and they were not sure how to tackle this.

Can they issue a corrected MOT certificate or do I have to get another MOT done?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Proper answer is speak to the MOT station. I'm pretty sure they can issue a corrected certificate at no cost. Has to be said though I'm a little uneasy as MOT garages are normally super correct on the paper-work.

I also had a similar scenario with our car, the description was incorrect, it said Corolla when it should have been Colorado the MOT garage were unable to correct the fault and the documentation had to be sent to DVLA, the police also had to be informed as it was a possible case of cloning, in this instance we knew it wasn't because the car had been owned from new but we had put a cherished plate on and i can only assume that the person on the computer at DVLA had used either a drop down menu and/or misread the spelling, it didn't cost us anything at the time, whether a charge is applied now is another question. Good Luck Paul

Not your problem!

At the very least the garage should re-test it, at no cost to you, with a bottle of wine given for your inconvenience.

how did they know what the old one was..

Maybe from the old MOT certificate? Some people still bring them in to get the 'extra month' even though its automatically added on line.

Shirley a job for VOSA.

Garage should contact area office and have new correct certificate issued?

. Test Certificate has been printed but an error has been noticed

A. If the error is on the expiry date, colour or the mileage then you can correct these (up to the end of the

next working day) by issuing a replacement certificate.

(VTS Device User Guide section 10.I2)

. For

all other changes you need to contact your local Area Office for them to amend the details and issue a

Replacement.

(The MOT Testing Guide – H.9.b.(iii))

. Do not enter a second test to issue the replacement.

Hi Paul,thanks for your input.

The MOT was done at the dealership where I had previously had 2 other MOTs(and services) done so they had my old reg on their computer.

I told them I had changed my reg number and I even left last year's MOT in the glove compartment-you know the one sent to me via DVLA once I had informed them of change of registration number.

So they had the car's details on their computer system with my old reg,and although I had told them of the change in reg number, they still managed to put it through the MOT with the old number plate.

From what people are saying it sounds like they'll need to sort it out one way or another.

I phoned the service dept after posting on here this morning-the chap said he would look into it for me and get back to me-still waiting for the return call.....

I've had this recently. The testing station can change the details on the MoT certificate within two weeks, so get down there with the certificate and documentation and stand there complaining loudly until it is changed. get soemthing off in a recorded delivery letter within the two weeks.

In my case, they put an extra 15,000 miles on the (very low) mileage, BUT I didn't notice until the following year when I replaced the old certificates. The DVLA records now show a reduction in the mileage between tests. Owners can access the mileage records on-line.

That woukld not be a very bad thing, BUT it's a Skoda Octavia, the ubiquitous taxi car. Mine is the one that's never been used as a taxi, honest Guv. Anyone reading the mileage records would reasonably assume that it is a 100k+ ex-taxi that has been clocked.

I suspect that the tester did it deliberately for a bit of mischief. The DVLA have a 'don't care, not bothered' attitude and won't change their records.
