Evening.

I bought a second hand car from a main dealer last week, paid cash and took delivery a few days ago - now running fully insured and taxed.

However, the young salesman who sold me the car has been trying to get in touch, I had four missed calls on my phone. When I called him back he said I needed to come in to sign some more paperwork and 'go through some important things' related to FSA requirements and Insurance. As far as i'm concerned the car is mine taxed, insured and paid for - I can't think why they'd need me to come back in so urgently.

I declined the AutoGlym Lifeshine ( from only £399) at the time of sale, but wasn't given any hard sell on any other money spinners. I can only think he forgot to plug the GAP insurance at the time and is trying to earn some commission. As it's a 20 mile round trip to the dealer, I don't anticipate heading that way for some time anyway. Should I just ignore the request?

just ask him straight what it is he wants you in for next time he calls. if it seems to be a flyer then just ignore and say you're fine with what you have.

Just a thought if you paid in cash is the amount of cash you paid the problem.

The salesmans message of the paperwork to satisfy the FSA is possibly not due to hire purchase but money laundering legislation. Insurance will be GAP insurance so ignore that but do check the cash situation.

It will be probably be to do with money laudry regs and the fact they are supposed to check your car insurance before they sell&tax the car. The money laundry regs are quite heavy duty so I would get in touch!!

I agree with Big John - that's what it'll be.

Get the salesman to post the stuff to you for signature or if not make them give you money for fuel. He clearly forgot these documents at the time.

The salesman forgot one of the FSA-related forms when I bought a car. I just got him to fax them over to me.

Cheers - I'll give him another call in the week.

He will also need a GAP insurance declaration signing. - He's told yuou about it, you dont want it, document signed off.

You need to sign almost as many pieces of paper for a car as you do a house!

The salesman might need a GAP form signing, but there is nothing that requires you to sign one. Ihave just bought a car; was told I needed to go into the office and speak to 'Julie' due to FSA regs - total cobblers. Julie is employed to get me to buy more than I need, in order:

finance - err no, I already told you I was paying myself

GAP insurance - err no, I don't need it, thank you

Insurance warranty (at £570 for two years!!) - err no, please stop hassling me or I'll ditch the deal, I thought I was in a car showroom, not a bank!

lol :)

I was relating this to Mrs Johnny - she said words to the effect -"Lucky you know about these things, I'd have just said yes to everything.."

Any idea what the percentage take up of extras like GAP / Autoglym etc. are? It must underpin our entire economy.
