Ford Focus II - Chewing gum on carpet - Ben 10

Have ingrained chewing gum on carpet. Any suggestions as to best way to remove it. Tried the ice approach. Still much of it there. Any advice much appreciated.

I've used WD40 and a finger nail to pick it out of the fibres followed up by a normal car interior shampoo. Test a small area first.
