My bonnet has stuck down on my Renault Laguna 2000 model, when i pull the handle to relaese the bonnet nothing happens.
Can anyone advise if i can fix it my self or is it a garage job
P.S i'm not know for my handyman skills.

When you say "nothing happens" do you mean the lever will not move or moves but is loose, i.e. the cable has snapped or pulls under tension as normal but the bonnet will not release ?
|
Sorry, it pulls under tension as normal but does not release.

Pull the handle out and push all the way back in again a dozen times, preferably on a warm day. If this doesn't work, I would drive to the Renault garage and ask them to help you out on the spot (they shouldn't charge and probably know the trick, if there is one).

Same thing happened on my Punto after about 15,000 miles. The dealer got me to pull on the handle while he pushed down hard on the bonnet. It came free and he unwound the rubber buffers (threaded, at least on this car) a couple of turns, which cured the problem.

have you tried having someone trying to lift the bonnet whilst you pull the release?
it could be the spring that makes the bonnett 'pop-up' has failed but the lock is still okay

Sorted...
Went to local garage who lent on bonnet while i pulled the release. This worked and he adjusted catches and oiled them
he says it a usual problem for Laguna's, charged me £3
Excellent service.

The point is that you *don't* lift the bonnet while pulling the release - there is already too much 'grip' on the catch. Hence the mechanic leaning on it.

Have similar problem.
Have tried all the advice and no luck, surmise that the cable has become detached under the bonnet.
Any advice or is it now agarage job?
