I have a request for Honest John forum.

Regarding the log in section, could I request a tick box to remember my log in details ?

I am sure the old site used to have this and each time i visited the web site I did not have to manually log in each time to see new posts or create a new thread.

If I have posted in the wrong section, please accept appologies.

I'll second that.

Oh - another thing I've just noticed - don't we have a preview button any more before posting?

The message pane supports viewing how it will look as you type including bold and italic.

Some browsers will remember your login details, if you let them (e.g. my Chrome does)

Safari on my Apple Mac does too. It does not remember the password for me but it does the username for here.

Sorry, what I ment was that If I have the web page open on a forum for over an hour and I click refresh to see any new posts I am logged out.

I have to go to the log in page (where all of my details appear) and click log in in order to see any refreshed posts.

The old web site did not do this.

When clicking refresh it would auto log me back in again and then show any new posts.

We had some complaints with the first version of the opposite. ie. That the forum kept you logged in for too long. This can be a security issue. We have opted for the forum to automatically log you out after it has been idle for 15 minutes, perhaps this isn't long enough?

Personally, I agree with Diddy. I was quite surprised that I was always being logged out. It's not a big problem, but I do find it mildly annoying.

I agree, although really annoying is more like it. As soon as you leave web browser you have to log back in on your return and the honest john cookies carefully saved in Ccleaner are no longer of any use!

I have no idea how hard this would be to implement. How about a drop down box in the profile to allow the user to select the length of time they see fit. Maybe with a "never" for those of us with unshared computers.

I really cannot see why posting to a car forum is a security issue! Why do we have to be logged out, ever. Even hotmail and facebook and yahoo stay logged in permanently, but the security of a forum where we post drivel (and some sense, too) means we have to be logged out every 15 minutes???

It logs out after 15 minutes of inactivity... the old forum software logged you out too. But it let you see new threads without logging back in. I am guessing this is part of the issue for members. Having to be logged in to see new posts is a bit of a backwards step from what we are used to.

The old software had some advantages but the new site as a whole suits the promotion of the HJ business as a whole. The forum just needs some more work over the next few weeks.

Yup, I'll second that. The old forum seemed to remember me and I could see what was new without logging in again. I can't see how a car discussion forum can be a "security issue". It's not as if I buy things here, it has my cc details or personal info. Someone might post as me? Big deal, if that's all a hacker has to occupy them then it's keeping them off the streets and stopping them hacking banks.

Other forums I use in a similar vein remember me so why not offer it here? It's usually a tick box. If you want to login every time, don't tick it.
