Hi folks,
Just wondered if someone could give me some advice please? My Primera 1.6 SRi stopped today suddenly whilst driving. It wouldn't start again and I called the AA. Patrolman said there was no spark & couldn't fix the problem so towed me to Nationwide Auto Centre where they had a look at it. Hours later I got a call to say it would need at new distibutor at a cost of £700 something fitted. After I picked myself off the floor I began to wonder if distributors fail like this or could it be something simpler, like a coil or relay somewhere? How difficult is it to fit a second hand or refurb distributor if it really is this? I'm an amateur with some knowledge/experience.
I can't afford that sort of money and besides which the car's only worth £500 tops.
Anything from you guys would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Highly likely this is the fault, source a second hand one at a fraction of the cost.
