Vauxhall Omega 3.0 - Roger Jones
A friend of mine is considering a Vauxhall Omega 3.0, N-reg with 100K on the clock. Any opinions on strengths, weaknesses and things to look out for? I'll check out the Car-by-Car Breakdown for him, but personal views are more than welcome
Re: Vauxhall Omega 3.0 - honest john
Timing belt. It's about four miles long, has GF50 plastic rollers and if it snaps the engine is stuffed. Also check every single electrical item.

The local traffic police (bless 'em) use them down here so they can't be that awful, can they? Come to think of it, I haven't seen one broken down...yet.
They are reguarly seen at the local drive-thru stocking up with free donuts and fizzy drinks
They can also be seen at speed on the M5 trying to get back to the nick in time for the end of the shift at 11pm (presumably it's back to the drive thru on the way home for free hot chocolate)
They have those sexy xenon headlamps - makes 'em easy to spot (but not in 1996 'N' model year)
I don't know why, but whenever I've been sat in the back of an Omega, I cannot ever open the rear doors form the inside - any pointers anyone?
The cambelt sounds a nightmare - 4 miles long together with those god damn awful plastic rollers!
On a serious note Roger - Firstly check that the mileage and condition if the car tallys - worn pedal rubbers/steering wheel etc. Can the vendor produce the MOT certificates? There are lots of ex-police motors out there - usually white(!) with steel wheels and no radios, no a/c, numerous holes in the roof, not to mention the tea/coffee/hot chocolate stains on the front seats. Another pointer is the brown marks on the rear seat after Jo Bloggs has given a positive breath test!!!
I digress again
I have a contact at a local Vauxhall dealer - I will ask him his views and will report back soon!
Regards
David
