So I decided to wash the car after all the snow and salt has gone. Thick with grime and muck and the labouring task of unravelling my hose and extension cables. Took me nearly 3 hours to go round inside and out. But the results paid off. Bit cheeky I suppose as I live next to a hand car wash, still I dont fancy the swirls and scratches of their many used sponges and brushes even though really I shouldnt be bothered as my car is 12 years old. Used my christmas present of a microfibre wash mit and I can recommend them espically when using two buckets. Now settling down with a can of beer.
Anybody else put their car washing off until now?

Just cleaned my car today after about 3 months. I don't clean my car as much as I used to. I've waxed it so many times the dirt just slides off it when I do clean it.
I prefer it looking dirty these days, a sort of 'rat' car. I'm more interested in keeping the bits underneath good, like uprated suspension, clean fluids e.t.c.
Looked great with all the grime along the sides, and together with being dark blue metallic, gives it a sort of matt finish which I like!

I don't blame you, Tim - either it's been snowy and slushy, making washing a waste of time, or it's been dry and cold with the risk of the water one the ground freezing.
Did the Z3 and SWMBO's Mini today - the Octavia will have to wait. Even with the hose-fed brush, washing two cars is quite enough for one day!

Hopefully the weather will stay nice this coming weekend so i can do mine for the 1st time this year, its either been snowing or its to wet... the car is filthy at the moment and i hate it looking like that

Washed them both last weekend but even if not washing them fully i do give the alloys a splosh over with soapy water brush and sponge down to keep the salt in check and to stop brake dust ingraining.
We'll be having the posts again in the spring asking which diabolical chemical to clean alloys of 6 months worth of baked in crud.

it was early dec since i last washed it so 6 weeks, its usually every 2 weeks. The missus wore a glittery top on her xmas do and has covered the seat in the damn stuff, arrghh! Il try the handheld bissell seat cleaner tomorrow.

I was thinking about washing mine as it was getting difficult to see out of the windows, but fortunately we had a bit of rain that cleared it. Might have washed it 30k miles ago I think...

I did the Escort this afernoon, inside and out. Probably done only 1000 miles since the snow started but still it was exceptionally clagged up - you could almost hear the rear 'arches fizzing.

You now get self cleaning glass for buildings, why can't they use the same technology for vehicle glass.

'RainX' or similar product? Mind you, I wouldn't touch this sort of product with a barge pole. Well, certainly would not use it on any car of mine

"You now get self cleaning glass for buildings, why can't they use the same technology for vehicle glass."
Because buildings don't have windscreen wipers?

And of course your don't need the same clarity of vision from buildings that you must have from the inside of a car, especially the windscreen.

The suns out, i'm going out to wash them both now....had a quick nose under the pick up yesterday, noticed the rear prop slider looked dry so gave it a few strokes from the trusty grease gun...feels somehow right greasing moving parts up

gb,
If it's possible to kill a car with kindness you - and oilrag - are the men to do it. :)

I put ours through the £5 (£6 inc door shuts) hand car wash. Had some problems needing a visit from the Quack, just after Christmas, so not keen on gasping in ice cold air, out on the drive.
That said, rinsed salt of underneath with a hose - that`s a lot more passive and you can get enough air in through your nose - warming the induction slightly.

I have given mine a couple of cleans since the thaw. Always by hand. However i will admit that when it was covered in snow i used a brush to remove snow from around the plastic trims wheel arches flaps etc. I have now noticed a bit of scratching. on these trims. I know Honda plastics are not that good. Anyone any idea how best to try and erase these, treat em during next few months. Whats the best thing to do.

I cheat, but at least they blast off the worst of the dirt with a pressure washer before it goes in to the mechanical hand washerm and it get a wash underneath as well.
Come out gleaming
