A worthy winner IMHO.
It's very competent in all areas, and affordable to a great many people.
I suppose that its main rival for this award was the VW Golf?

I believe they are very solid cars. My dad's Mk1 Focus Zetec 1.6 is almost 10 years old now. It has no rust! And even better, it still drives like new. He's never had any major problems with it - only fault was the PAS pump failed which cost £400 to fix as it was apparently an engine out job.

Ford's Ka attracted the accolade of 'Small Used Car of the Decade', while the VW Passat, Audi A3 and BMW X5 won the awards in the categories of Large Used Family Car, Executive Used Car and Luxury Used Cars respectively. Additionally, SEAT took home the 'Most Improved Used Car Brand of the Decade' prize'. (source yahoo!)
I owned a 1.6 Zetec auto but I was looking at them (mrk 1's) the other day and thought how dated they look now - fine car though & good 2nd hand choice IMO.
