If it can be done it would need to be through the diagnostic system.However,Drl are soon to become a legal requirement on new cars and so it may not be possible.hth

can be done with a diag tool as elekie doc say's, this is how its done.
The coding is for a gold so suspect the coding for a polo will be different. i haven't been asked to do a polo one yet! but it gives you an idea.



Reference for DRL's and Comfort opening and closing via remote.
We need to work with two different long codings. DRL's are under Central Electronics, and Remote windows are under the Comfort System.
Daytime Running Lights:

Select 09 (Central Electronics)
Long Coding -> Function 07

Original Coding:
17078E234004180000140000001400000028770B5C

Working with byte 00:
17 = 00010111, drl off = 00000111 = hex 07

New coding:
07078E234004180000140000001400000028770B5C

Thanks for the info. I was hoping it was just a matter of turning a switch while pressing something else or something similar. Looks like it is going to be a dealer job if they decide to do it. At the moment they are turning on the sidelights to turn off the drls but I just hope they don't forget to turn them off when they leave the car otherwise it will be flat battery, even though there is a warning buzzer.

It's not for me, but a friend. Personally I would leave them on but they have something against them.
There is a some mention of using the indicator stalk to turn them off on the PistonHeads site.

I read somwhere recently about doing this. You can do it yourself, like you pointed out. I think it is a matter of putting the ignition in neutral resetting trip turning of turning back on while holding trip. Something along these lines.

The manual say`s that whilst pulling the indicator stalk towards you (flash) and holding it down (left indicator), then switch the ignition off for 3 seconds. I have tried this but can`t get it to work.

If anyone succeeds, please let me know.
