Number plate query - Martin Devon
I put my old Volvo in the scrappage scheme some 3 months ago and I now note that it's reg' number is listed on the MID as being on a Honda CB500. Any thoughts?

Hmm Strange. There is a lot of metal in a Volvo. I wold expect to see it on a couple of mountain bikes and the supports at the Olympic stadium as well as the Honda.

Hey its rather like the "where is the knitted character this week" on Harry Hills show.

Was it a "short" number i.e. 6 rather than 7 characters - these fit better on m/c plates?

Strangely enough, I bought a number a couple of years back - the vendor did the transfer (it wasn't on retention) and afterwards my old, unremarkable number was shown by MID as being on a Triumph m/c - which I know was not the vehicle my number came off.

Perhaps someone found it more economical to buy the number plate from the scrap merchant rather than buying a brand new one.

I would trust them a little more than the insurance industry to input details correctly.

I would suspect that there's duplicated records - According to Wicki CB500s were made from 1993 to 2003 - I thought there were earlier versions in the 70s/80s but there we are. I assume you've got records that confirm disposal of the Volvo. I wouldn't worry about it.

how do you do that then?

I recall yonks ago a site, by the RAC iirc that would detail a vehicle upon in putting the reg, but I can't source it any more!

There is very little detail on the AA/RAC sites... the DVLA one mentioned above is much better.

As you have to input the make if you don't know it visit the AA site first which will give you that info.

Just run a test check on the DVLA and interested to see a very valuable cherished number Dad sold in the late 70s is on a modest 8yr old Boxster now.

So that does seem to show scrapped as far as DVLA are concerned and the MID showing Honda is an error.
