Looks a great idea and it says it is fitted to S Class - which suggests Mega Bucks - it is actually under £1500!
On that basis it might be Joe Public / Mondeo man's accessory in the near future
Would you buy it @ say £750?

Yep. Street lighting stinks where I live, and all pedestrians seem to dress entirely in black. And cyclists don't see the point of lights and reflective gear, either.
|
|
I want one - because of the prevalence of stags on the road at night here in the Highlands. Curiously enough, the video doesn't mention deer, just pedestrians. I never worry about hitting pedestrians.
I don't suppose there's an aftermarket version available that I could get fitted to my old Berlingo? After all, if one can get a cheap aftermarket satnav, why not a cheap aftermarket infra-red night vision device?
No? Oh, well . . . I guess I'll just have to do without.

I never worry about hitting pedestrians.
Why?
|
Why?
a) worry is a pointless activity :-)
b) no pedestrians on roads around here - just cars, deer & sheep!
|
Tyro
As in shooter?
just curious

The deer / stags should be made to wear reflective vests.

Good suggestion, AE. I'll suggest that my MP proposes some legislation to that effect. It would be at least as sane, sensible, and workable as most of the stuff that gets through parliament these days.
dieseldogg - I'm not sure if I've understood your question correctly, but no, I'm not a huntin', shootin' and fishin' person.

There's no point in seeing the deer round here, they jump out in front of cars when it's too late to avoid them.
I saw someone's idea they get spooked at night by the rapidly moving shadow caused by an approaching car's headlights and run away from the shadow towards.............?
|
>>There's no point in seeing the deer round here, they jump out in front of cars when it's too late to avoid them.
True. I would hope that a decent night vision system would illuminate not just the road, but also a fair amount of ground on either side, so that one could see the deer that might be about to jump out.
|
I do not know about spotting Deer with Horns but the system might stop you knocking down a few "OLD DEARS" near an old folks home!
Remember Old Folks Homes are for others but one day................

It's a great idea. Also as you age your night vision tends to get less effective too. Once someone makes a transparent led film overlay for windscreens then you could have full head up display. It could also double as security if you put it on all glass as you could turn it black so no-one could look inside the car. Or more amusingly you could have just about anything appear to be in the car....

What happens when an equipped vehicle meets another one coming the other way?
|
Hedgehogs will have to up their FPH or else:-(
Perhaps they need add a heat detector so that sheep and deer have a better chance ?
|
Interesting idea. They should converge it with a rudimentary recording system (e.g. capture last 5 miles) so that in the event of an "incident" the detail can be reviewed. (I realise that it's forward facing only, but it probably wouldn't cost a lot to add the functionality)
|
Looks good but needs to be nearer the line of sight as you're expected to be glancing at it so much. Dash top at the very least or head up as mentioned already.

|
Henry, it's an infrared based system - infrared is heat in the context of your thought.

edit - should have been a bleat detector. Doh!

Now that's not a baaaad idea..
