Hey,
Im currently at Uni and i'm 20, and got a years no claims, im looking to buy a new car as my old one died!
I've narrowed the search down to either:
A Mini Cooper S (2002-2005) or a Golf GT FSI(bit newer 04-05)
Now need advice on which to get, my thoughts are as follows
The Mini is quicker, and has been said to be lot of fun to drive and I like the look of the S. Im worried about comfort (hard ride) and if i'll enjoy driving it.
The golf is more standard, a 2.0 engine but actually has a good MPG, less fun i think, slower, but more practical.
What do you think I should go for.
Note: Insurance and Tax and very similar for both for me
Thanks
Max

Go for the GOlf
or
Seat Lean T
or Skoda Fabia Vrs T
|
Get a bicycle and think about paying back your student loan.

Given that students and student areas are popular targets for criminals, it might be better to postpone buying your 'nice' car until you leave university.

...and for now get a 2.0 (petrol) mk1 Focus.

I'd get the Mini Cooper S. I have driven the Golf, and it is very good, handles well and goes well, but the Mini is just cooler and drives a bit more like a sports car.
Whatever you do, dont get a bike, a focus, a diesel or pay your student loan off until you absolutley have to!

You wont be saying that when HM gov have sold the student loand scheme off to extortionate loans of chicago corp, and two heavies come round to take away goods and chattels....

...or after drinking diet coke all evening you ferry your car-less student mates back from the uni bar and they throw up all over your pride and joy :-)

Nah get a good Fabia Vrs Tdi

Mini for fun as, after 20 years teaching in higher education, I concluded that fun is the main student objective.

In regards to student loan, thats not a problem, i've paid most of it off.
Really looking for something 3 door, sporty, and that won't depreciate loads.
Anyone any ideas on depreciation of a 2005 golf, or 2003/4 mini cooper s?
