Will off-road tyres mean increased fuel consumption?
I have a Nissan Navara currently fitted with road tyres however I'm considering replacing them with off road tyres as some of my work takes me off road where even with my 4 x 4 capability (and hi/lo ratio) they can struggle to maintain traction. Could you advise me as to whether I can expect any significant reduction in fuel consumption or excessive wear given the off road tyres will be used on and off road?

Off-road tyres generally have bigger tread blocks with large grooves between them, enabling the tyre to bite into loose surfaces for better traction. The downside of this is that they perform less well on-road. You should expect fuel consumption to increase, less grip on normal roads and a significant increase in noise levels, In terms of wear, the more they are used on-road compared to on-road, the more quickly they will wear out, and you should expect them to wear more quickly than an equivalent road tyre.
