Two questions:
1) Anyone know a cheap source of NGK CR8E (or equiv) plugs for my bike?
2) Failing that, is a quick scrub with a wire brush acceptable for a pair of 2.5 year old plugs or do they really go off with age?

Sounds like Queen Elizabeth, who had a bath once a year whether she needed it or not.
Just replace them, they can't owe you anything!
I'm not sure why you ask the question, are they particularly expensive?

25 quid for 4.
For a tenner I'd just do it, but the tight git in me says 25 sods is worth hanging on to!

"A quick scrub with a wire brush" is likely to deposit metal on the insulators and lead to tracking and reduced performance.
As Mike says, blow the cobwebs off the wallet.

This is *not* the advice I wanted. ;-(
I wonder where the wallet is. I remember it was on the hall table around the time of the Charles / Diana Royal wedding... Then during the Gulf war I saw it......

There is probably a mark-up of 100% on the retail price of spark plugs. Look up motor factors in your local yellow pages, ring round and see if you can get the things at trade price. But beware - some of these places have different prices for professional mechanics and the ordinary punter. There is one group of factors called Partco that charges the most appalling prices.
You might also find another manufacturer's equivalent for your plug is cheaper. If you can find a Bosch alternative - and there will be books listing equivalents - you might be able to order them cheaply from German & Swedish, which sells by mail order from a place near Heathrow airport
