96 1.8 Swapping a non-turbo engine for a turbo. - smed706
hi all can anyone tell me if i can take the 1.8 straight flat diesel engine and box out of my Escort van and put the more gutsy 1.8 turbo diesel engine and box into it from my knackered mondeo w reg (the engine is sweet but body is trashed) thanks in advance for any advice

You can just change the engine;it'll fit the box that's in the van.

96 Should be pre-ECU.ECU only came in to control EGR(St.II emissions) and anti-theft.93-96 TDI was only St.I emissions.

You'll need an TDI bonnet liner to feed air to the intercooler.

thats great thanks very much so basically my 96 diesel escort van will take a w reg (2000) mondeo turbo diesel engine so long as i fit an air intake for the cooler .

I thought you were talking 96 into 96;the later Mondeo engine will have EGR controlled by an ECU which will also have an immobiliser built into the injection pump.You will also need pump off an earlier engine(93-96 Escort TDI) which just has the ignition connected thro' the immobiliser circuit directly to the solenoid.
