Bike rack for Renault Espace - Ray Street
I know that I can't use a 'normal' tailgate rack for the Espace due to its glassfibre body...does anyone know where I can get (purchase or rent) a proper Espace rack (that fit into the roof rails) other than from Renault??
Re: Bike rack for Renault Espace - Andrew Bairsto
I saw this morning a new espace with a tailgate bike rack for two bikes so there must be this option about.
Re: Bike rack for Renault Espace - Robin Hall
Is the tailgate fibre glass as well? most of the rear facing racks clip onto the top of the tailgate so the bodywork doesn't get touched. However you can have problems if there is a spoiler attached to the tailgate. I assume you don't have a towbar as these seem the most secure and practical bike racks, some allow you to still open the tailgate. Halfords sell a range of racks (starting at about £30), the problem can be the height that you have to lift the bikes and the overall height of the vehicle afterwards. Most large Cycle shops will sell racks as well, or have details of a hire centre. I have hired roof bars and box from HSS Hire shops before, they may hire racks as well. If you have a large camping shop near you they also stock them.

Good Luck

I have just asked at ATU (the equivelent of Halfords in Germany)and they provide two models one is towbar mounted and the other is on a removable frame that is clamped to the chassis and is also hinged so you can open the door.

Try looking in the classifieds in the cycling magazines (Cycling Plus is good). There are loads of specialists out there making racks for every kind of bike. Lifting a bike down off the roof of an Espace might be awkward, but there are racks that allow you to load the bikes at the side of the car and then they lift onto the roof using pistons. I carry a tandem on the roof of my car (more expensive than a No Fear sticker but it gets admiring glances) and am after one of these "lifting" racks to get it up there - at present I just have a "standard" tandem rack. Having a BX helps 'cos the suspension can be let down as well.

Bikes, Espaces and now the BX. - David Woollard
Well done Chris. Only four replies and you've worked a BX into the thread. Now I can ease off a little in other areas and we'll still keep the Citroen averages up.

Together we'll keep those averages up. Keep up the good work.
