05 2.0 Mis-fuelling- permanent damage ? - canard
I am considering buying a Previa that has been miss fueled (petrol > diesel) according the dealer printout. Is this a reason not to buy ie. does it cause long term engine problems ?

I think mis fuelling is now the Breakdown companies most common call out, used to be flat batteries. So there must be thousands of cars out there whcih have had the wrong fuel in at some time. Also Tesco's have had problems with silicone in petrol and have paid out for customer to have their tanks drailed and fuel lines cleaned out. If the wrong fuel has been cleaned out, fuel line and filters cleaned or replaced then shoul;d not be a problem.
If your buying then of course you could say that causes damage so negotiate with the seller a discount !!

Run away. lots more cars out there.

Unless everything in the fuel system has been replaced,,, there MAY be future and very expensive consequences.. eg fuel pumps bearings fail and send slivers of metal into injectors.

Frankly unless you get a warranty which SPECIFICALLY covers the issue of fuel contamination - and you are unlikely to - you are buying a car and the seller has warned you of a MAJOR issue.

If it then goes wrong and you face a bill of £4,000 to replace part not under warranty, you have no chance of redress.

But it's your money.

150,000 cars a year in the UK are misfueled.
At least if there is a record of it, they probably didn't just drive it rattling and smoking until they could refill, so at least the paper trail shows a proper remedy was sought.
