I need serious help, so please no messing. Thanks in advance.
A whileback I postd here re my cherised number on the rentention cert/V778. Bought via Ebay a few mnths back, sent off to have name added and extend the retion period, sent covering letter, but item sent to 'grantee' a fw weeks back.
got hold of the guy today via phone at last, he told me to wait as he was 'busy' and it was not his fault.
I've written to the dvla, but they are useless, no word for about three weeks now.
I have evidence he sold me the reg and signed recepit frm him say 'sold' to Paul ????? by ????/etc and address as per V78 cert.
Can you guys or HJ help?
Thanks
Paul

Bought cherished plate.
Received the retetion cert aka v778

DVLA sent to 'grantee.'
Grantee not appearing to want to return to me.
DVLA not helpful on the phone, asked me to write which I did, but nothing.
o simply, hw do I GET MY V778 back? It is mine as the bot sold it to me via Ebay.
I do not want a refund via the credit card i used, but my goods back.

Have you tried contacting eBay? Worth a try perhaps.

Paul...Try posting your problem here.
answercentre.ebay.co.uk/forum.jspa?forumID=8002
There are some very knowledgable EBayers who try to help with any problems that come up.
They are not EBay employees.
Good luck

Sorry, but I don't understand your language. You could always post in simple terms, and avoid the necessity to do everything twice...

I can recall the original thread (but failed to find it just now).
If my memory serves me correctly:
- Paul2007 purchased (or so he hopes) a cherished plate via eBay
- He has a receipt for this
- His name was put on the retention document (V778) but as a nominee and not the grantee
- The V778 was due to expire so he sent of the money and V778
Now if I recall correctly, then he has never been made the grantee of the cherished plate - the seller is still the grantee. To change this the grantee must send of the retention document with a covering letter to the DVLA. Until this happens then Paul2007 is just a nominee and the seller can always nominate someone else to use the plate at any time as the grantee.
So although you've extended the V778 it was correctly sent to the grantee and that is not you. You need to grantee (the seller) to send the V778 with a covering letter to the DVLA ASAP to change the grantee to you.
Best of luck.
Example of a V778 here:

Apologies to all but I've hardly understood a word of this thread. Maybe I'm missing something.

Paul2007 has assumed we know the previous thread to which he refers. Without this his offer of £10 as a thread name means nothing.
I forgot to add in my summary that he left it too late to assign the plate to a car and so had to extend the V778 (that was done late too). So he's in a bit of a mess. The seller may not be trying to scam him or anything and assumed he'd stick the plate on a car by now.
He will also now be beyond the date when he can try to get funds back. Besides he paid for the plate and sort of got it and then this has all gone wrong.
The big problem is I think I remember him paying several hundred pounds (£900?) for the plate so this is a big deal to anyone in his shoes.

Update.
As I bought the cherished reg via Ebay, contacted them again, insisted I spke with a senior floor worker, and finally they have sent me details that I can present to the police. The police then will ave a guide ow to laise with Ebay and resolve this.
Hopefully a call from the police will do the trick.
The appointment t the cop staton is for Tursday, they said I would have to wait. I have asked my son to download all the covtacts, full details/etc to present to the police.
I have sent a finalpolit email to the ebayer.Hopefully he will act positively. I have left him a phone message requesting an update, but that was hours ago. He's only avswered hi mobile once out of the 20 odds times I have phoned him.
Pretty decent of him to acknowldge that he hadreceived the certificate.
I'm a very reasonable person, and give all the benefi of the doubt and inclued in my email that he can easily update ame via email, phone or text re anypropblems he is encountering.
I beleive I'm too reasonable.
£900 may not be a lot of money to some, but it isto me as it is MY money.
Thank you all that have sincerely tried to help!!!
I will update when I havehad my goods returned to me with the appropriate signatures.
The law was cnged in 2007 re 'grante' on the V778 becuse of poblems like the once I'm enduring, which is making me sick, angry, hence the incentive to resolve this once and for all.

No that's a lot to most people. I'm sure this will resolve so don't get stressed as it will not help.
I assume you have the address of this person because they would have appeared on the V778 as the grantee?

Eh? I'm still none the wiser....
|
The guys bought a cherished plate and paid to extend the retention certificate it was on. This has gone to the ebay seller instead and he's trying to sort it out.
The lesson for others is to stick the plate on a car before the retention certificate expires if you're not the grantee is would seem.
Hope it sorts out for Paul2007.
