I have repowered my polo after a cam belt failure, original motor was AHS model, new motor is 98 AHS model. Almost everything appears same except plumbing of fuel rail.
The motor spins and has a spark but will not start?? I have been told since that you may need entire loom with engine?( new motor, old loom in car.) Is this potentially a problem?
There is a small crack around the coil/cdi but still have spark at plug.
any help appreciated

if the spark is strong thats ok but it could fail under compression. can you test the coils. i have searched in the past for specifics and ways to test.
is the plug comming out wet? if so then fuel is getting through? if not then spark
if you have both a good spark and plug then further is needed....sorry but over the net its hard to diagnose. have you a healthy battery? do you know the engine was good?
