I am a 1 litre Yaris and have been told of the discussion about mileage and value/reliability. I am 9 years old, have toddled about 23k and feel in the prime of life. I love driving the 2 miles to Waitrose because you meet a better class of car there. Only yesterday I pulled into a space still warm from a MB SLK. Even met a Rolls once. Once a month or so I am taken 60 miles to visit my owner?s grandchildren.

I live in a garage, which I share with some bloke who keeps his lawnmower in there and sometimes plays Jazz Record Requests too loud. But he does keep me clean and makes sure my battery voltage is correct. As a lady I love new things but I can?t persuade anyone to get me a new battery because my original one works fine. I just love it when he switches on the garage compressor because he then messes about with my wheely bits.

Once a year I go to the doc for a check-over and oil change, even if I have only done 2k since last time. I have to go anyway because I am told the Government need to know about my condition. I keep hearing ?no advisories? - I don?t know what it means but my owner smiles so I suppose all is ok.

Can?t imagine I will ever get to 100k, but I might get to 18 if there is enough oil coming out the ground at that time.

All the best,

Ada Lovelace

Hi Ada,

You sound like a nice girl.

I am a Ford Focus CC3 and quite a bit younger than you are.

That's probably just as well as I get taken out nearly every day and do more than a thousand miles every month.

My owner uses me to get to work, which gets boring after a while.

But he also uses me to get to his caravan in what he calls leafy North Yorkshire - some nice roads around there and I don't tend to use as much diesel which pleases him, I think.

I live in a back yard which is nice and secure, although there is no roof.

I haven't had to go to the car doctor yet, but I expect he will take me once a year.

My owner keeps me fairly clean and checks my oil regularly, although I wish he would check my tyres more often.

I reckon I could make 100k miles if I'm looked after.

My owner said something about changing me after three or four years, but he said that about my predecessor and kept him seven years, so we will have to see.

Tough luck, little Yaris.
The bankers have fiddled, the motor manufacturers have squealed and the Government (sic) has spoken.
You are destined to die before your time...
