Hi. Does anyone know how much it should cost for an alternator to be mended and fitted.

Assuming you mean the 1.8TD engine, there are brand new ones here:

for £65.00 plus £10.00 postage.

I would think an auto rewind specialist would charge under £50 if you take it in to them, or you could pay £20-£30 for a used one at a scrappy.

are you spanner literate? a recon would be about 45 quid , one from the scrapyard 15 quid .. if you can do it yourself would save another 50 notes to have it fitted
