00 2.1 oil pipe broken, now no acceleration - jemnetley
Grand. Diesel. 75000 miles. My oil pipe broke last sunday covering the underside and rear of the car in oil; I got the car home (2 miles, most probably should'nt have); oil pipe now repaired and car goes (can get to 70mph slowly) but no no acceleration to speak of and decelarates going up hill. Turbo? Some blackish smoke out of the exhaust when changing gear and trying to accelerate - could be oil residue burning itslef off? also engine misfires/pinks/shudders at around 20/30mph when accelerating.

Not a car expert but any suggestions please as having read the renault espace vol 1 and 2 some of these problems may apply. Have genuinely had few problems with this car and it has done what it says on the bottle.

2000 2.1 Oil Pipe broke, now no accelaration - Peter.N.
Which oil pipe was it? If it was the feed to the turbo you have probably destroyed the bearings by driving it with no lubrication.

Hi Peter

They replaced the oil cooler pipe.

What effect does 'no bearings' have and which bearings are we talking about? how is the car affected by this please?

Still probably destroyed turbo bearing, designed to run at upto 250,000 rpm and needs a continuous feed of oil at pressure-it would sound as tho' a new or re-con turbo is required but it is likely that a number of other items in the engine will be damaged through driving with little oil.

Thanks

Am I doing any damge to car by using it at present as apart from the acceleration issue it seems to be working fine

If oil is now circulating to all parts, you should-repeat should-be OK but I would be suprised that the engine suffered no other damage-you need to get an expert to check.

so would the lack of acceleration be down to the turbo. I can get to 70mph v slowly but going up hills I start to decelerate and there is no acceleration 'boost'/response when the pedal is depressed

Are there no lights on the dash ie the heater plug symbol this comes on when it goes into limp home mode but it sounds like you have blown the turbo when you fit the new turbo change the EGR valve as this was probably the start of your problem.

Agree that turbo/EGR is possible from having read alot of other threads but as I am not an expert.....

would the car be able to get to 70 with a blown turbo?
wouldnt I notice a turbo blowing/go with alot of smoke like F1?

FYI I reckon petrol consumption has increased so is the 'engine management system' out of sync?

You'd only get smoke if the oil seals in turbo have failed-bearing could have failed on it's own.I don't understand how an oil cooler pipe failure can be caused by an EGR valve-Andy,please explain.

2000 2.1 Oil Pipe broke, now no accelaration - Doc lowe
Hi all

Have got similar symptoms of no acceleration/lack of power and it takes along time to build up speed.
We have not had any oil leaks previous to this.
But the heater light warning comes up followed by the words SERVICE before it returns to the time. This now comes on a short time after starting and occasionally during a journey. The lack of power is not as much as the EGR valve as have had this in the past. It seems something is putting it into limp mode but what??
Last work carried out was replacement of inj number 4 about a month ago and was running great.
