Fortunately no-one came to any harm in this insane episode, but the photo that accompanies this is just priceless.

Interesting history this chap has, i'd have thought the bus company should not have employed a habitual drink driver, makes you wonder...glad i don't take the bus in Manchester.

Would be interesting to hear their comments.

I take probably 1000's if not 10,000's of bus rides in Manchester each year and it annoys me in many ways and miss my car so much for local bus jorunets but not at all for city centre ones (I used the bus when I had a car for that journey anyway like all of us do who live round here).

I have probably made well over 100,000 bus journeys and not once been involved in an accident and I have only ever had one break down.

The bus company concerned seem to be a professional outfit running services on hehalf of the local public transport exectutive however they are a small outfit and may don't have the funds to do full backgrounds checks and even if they did I doubt any records of his alchohol problem would have existed.

He just split up from his wife and flipped. What he did was wrong and stupid and he deserves his sentance, I am just now sure how this is the fault of the bus companies. As longs as humans drive buses this sort of thing is likely to happen. There has even been cases of all the cabin crew on commerical airlines being over the limit.

"I have probably made well over 100,000 bus journeys and not once been involved in an accident and I have only ever had one break down. "

That's a lot. If you have been taking buses for, say, 20 years, then that equates to over 13 journeys every day....
Bus driver went on booze cruise - Lud
that equates to over 13 journeys every day....

... without ever finding an affordable car that wasn't a shed ...

Or an even better statistic... "I take probably 1000's if not 10,000's of bus rides in Manchester each year". Let's say he takes 10,000 rides a year...he takes them 7 days a week.... that is an average of 27 bus journeys a day without taking time off for holidays etc...

Forgive my ignorance here, doesn't DD stay on a licence for 10 years?
Bus driver went on booze cruise - Pugugly
Not sure but don't you need a CRB check to drive a bus ?
Bus driver went on booze cruise - Rattle
Sorry about my slightly skewed stats but I was quite drunk when I posted that.

On some days I have got at least 8 buses though depending on where my jobs are.

And yep you do need a CRB check but I don't think its a conditioon of a PCV licence, I think it is a condition of being employed by the bus company and maybe law.

I would imagine its quite a basic CRB check though which is required.

No problem, Rattle, it made me laugh!

Anyway good job you were not driving a bus!
Bus driver went on booze cruise - quizman
I heard on the radio that we have got to drink less, I don't know why.

I thought it was alright to go to the pub on a bus.

...Not sure but don't you need a CRB check to drive a bus ?...

That might only apply to school buses.
Bus driver went on booze cruise - Mookfish
That might only apply to school buses.

My dad used to drive a minibus taking disabled children to school and for that he needed the more in depth CRB check, he also had to have a qualified care worker with him.

IIRC any employer can request the basic CRB check with employee's consent and the enhanced CRB check if for teachers, carers, nurses and such like.

As I say I'm not sure - makes sense though - even a service bus driver is in a position of trust in respect of exposure to young children etc.
Bus driver went on booze cruise - Alby Back
Perhaps he just needs a bit of.....um....coaching ?
I'm sure this will make him put a.....stop.....to it...
I mean he was.....bus....ted for it
He probably thinks it isn't....."fare"......

I'll be off now......

Worse (better) than that: it stays on your record forever.

If you get a second conviction within 10 years its a mandatory 3 year ban.
