04 2.0 Rear crossmember bushes - steam train
Failed MOT, rear sub-frame has excessive play, bushes need replacing. Does anyone know the best and easiest way to replace them for DIY and which are the best bushes to use?

Only use ford bushes and the glue to hold them in place. You have to remove the subfame (4 bolts) after unbolting all the suspension arms. Remove the old bushes by pressing them out, fit the new bushes with the glue and allow 24 hours to cure.
Alternatively you can buy a new crossmember from Ford at about £250 and just in and out it. The bushes and glue come to about £75.

Easiest to DIY and best lasting bushes are the Powerflex Poly bushes. You can fit them without removing the subframe or even the wheels if you put the car on ramps. Hardest part is removing the rubber remnants of the old bush, but if yours are bad enough to fail the MOT then they will probably fall out.
See the ford mondeo enthusiast website forums for a how-to.
If you prefer to fit the Genuine Ford ones and you have to remove the subframe you can buy Genuine New Ford Subframes on Ebay for circa £150.
The Powerflex bushes are a fit and forget job whereas the Ford ones will want renewing again in 60k miles.
