03 2.7 creaking suspension and plug replacement - innocenti66
I have just bought a clk coupe cdi privately.

I asked that the car be mot'd prior to purchase.

car has done 63k and was mot'd 2 days before i collected.

I have noticed that when i go over a speed bump slowly the suspension creaks quite loudly with the up and down movement.................dont know what causes it and thought any problems would have been mentioned at mot ( i have advisory notes and only tyre mentioned ).......................any ideas ?

Also how often / when do deisel engines need the plugs replaced as last service was at 43k and theyve not been done from new.

any help appreciated

No spark plugs only glow plugs which only need replacing when its hard to start from cold. Creaking sounds like wishbone bush or antiroll bar bush gone dry.

Have a look at the bushes you could try spraying with duck oil just to eliminate the noise, idealy replace the bush, also check the coil springs if they sit in a rubber cup check to see if worn and metal to metal contact.

As for the plugs if they work leave them alone! far too much trouble can happen removing them.

A good indie or a merc specialist in your area is your best bet don't let the fast fit guys get there hands on it you might be sorry!

As for the price that depends on the problem and where you are in the north/ south divide!

There are two rubber mounting points for the front subframe they are situated just behind the bumber these rot and cause all sorts of noises always missed in the UK mot. Also cross member that holds the engine in place is a known weak spot if not attended to the engine ends up on the road.
