03 1.8 Possible ABS fault - andyboro
Sometimes when I brake pretty lightly in my 53 plate 406 Rapier, the ABS seems to activate as if the road is slippy when it could be totally dry. I have read about the sensors in the hubs being dirty but is this right ?? Any help greatly appreciated.

Did you get this sorted?

Assuming no ABS fault light is coming on then I think the problem is likely to be with one of the wheel speed sensors.

My 406 is doing exactly the same. I investigated today and found that the ABS sensor reluctor ring (toothed iron ring) on the nearside CV joint is loose. This is probably the cause. Looks like I need a new drive shaft unless someone knows a cheaper (reliable) fix.

Found the fault eventually, front nearside ABS toothed ring cracked. Found a replacement reluctor ring on the internet and didnt have to replace the cv joint. Saved a bit of coin and effort into the bargain.

I have 307 2001 1.6 petrol. Did the same thing had the back abs sensors cleaned and it solved the problem. Get a Haynes manual and it will tell you how to do it. Save 100's. Hope this helps.
