Bora - Simon Whaites
I am thinking of buying a year old VW Bora 2.0 Sport for about £11,000. Fistly am I thinking about paying too much for it, and secondly have any readers with experience of the car any advice to give to me? Do they think it is a sound car, or an overpriced VAG product?

Cheers,

Simon
Re: Bora - honest john
Toledos on the same floorpan handle better. But a Bora carries the VW badge, and that's worth a lot in this country.

Re: Bora - Andrew Bairsto
The Bora is a Skoda Octavia nothing more nothing less they cannot give them away in Germany a 2.0 new is under 10000uk pounds and could have been built in the any of a number of factories with very poor built quality and none existant customer after care quality
Re: Bora - Marcus
What the hell are you on about ?

Bora is simply a Golf Saloon, I had a demonstrator for one week, TDI 115, it was a cracking car ! my advice to you Simon is to try and find one of these, they really fly, best colour is metallic blue ( IMO ) I cant believe they are so cheap !!!! I've seen ads in the Saturday telegraph in places like Motorpoint, Direct cars etc for not much more than 11 grand. brand new

They love to Knock VW on here, but I would gladly swap my company Peugeot 406 for any Volkswagen ! - its only a W reg, with 24 000 miles and all sorts of bits of trim have started falling off, the luggage retaining eye in the boot has been TORN out of the floorpan - god knows how. the door seals have come loose, the drivers seat feels like it's not properly fastened down.

It constantly rattles like a set of spanners having a gang bang in a filing cabinet. the dashboard could be home to any number of small rodents it judders and wobbles intermittently under braking , and it feels cheap and flimsy. Ive had more bother with this one car than with any amount of VWs and yes I can definately confirm that even Rovers are much better made.

So treat yerself to a Bora - perhaps andy bairstow could sort you out with a personal import - he is a self confessed expert ......
Re: Bora - Gwyn Parry
Bora suffers from the old Jetta image.... everybody wants a Golf (for some reason) and the saloons are left on the sidelines. Friend of mine had Jetta GT - A Golf GTi with a boot at over a grand less at the time (we are talking 1989). The Jetta was just as good (and yes it was made in Germany) even the insurance was cheaper.
Re: Bora - Ashley
A bloke i know has just bought an 'x' plate Bora 1.4 S ( i know, i know, i did grimmace when he told me ). He paid 8 grand for it ( it was imported from Ireland ), which means he bought a VW Bora for Fiesta money, and he got a 3 year warranty too. I know which car i would've chosen, but it would've been at least a 1.6 S

And as far as VW's are concerned, best build quality of any car i've owned and they hold their money too.

Re: Bora - Simon Whaites
Is the 1.4 sold in the Uk, and if it isn't wouldn't it mean that he will find this very hard to sell on when he decides to upgrade?
Re: Bora - Ashley
They do a 1.4 Golf, so i assume they sell a 1.4 Bora too. Anyway, the bloke saved loads so i don't reckon he's too bothered about selling it quite yet ! Also, he tends to keep his cars for quite a while so it probably won't be worth that much when he comes to sell it.

Re: Bora - Gwyn Parry
I think we are too hung up on resale values of grey imports.....If you pay bargain basement prices you can afford to let go at a cheper price come sale time, certainly if you intend to go the same route to upgrade.....me I will have no qualms about sourcing my next car from Ireland (if I can get a good deal) I live 35 mins from Holyhead and to get to Dublin these days is easier than to the Smoke. I intend to hang onto this motor (when I get it) and sell it on in 8.5 years when I quit the Rat Race.
Re: Bora - Simon Whaites
I have also been offered a 3 year pristine 318i ASE for the same sort of money. It has done 90,000 miles but I know the person who has done those miles, mostly on motorways, and he has looked after it very well. I am concerned that a 10K miles Bora might last longer than a 90,000 mile 318. Am I right in thinking this, or in the three years that I expect to own it would it make no difference. I prefer the BMW to drive, but am not sure whether it would be reliable or not....

Any thoughts on this particularily owners of high mileage BMW 3-series, any would be welcomed.

Also, HJ whats your view?

Simon.
Re: Bora - Simon Whaites
Should say that BMW is an early E46 and I am intending to drive about 15-20k per year.
