02 2.0 HDi 110 Starting problem - Vale
Hi all
New to the forum but not to 307 issues, congratulations on a good looking forum i hope someone can help. I have a starting issue from cold and hot, it takes 10-15 attempts before firing from cold and 2-3 from a warm engine, it started around autum last year and has got worse, understandably, durring the cold spell. The engine turns over well and runs well once started, my local garage not Pug but respected diagnosed a faulty heating circuit relay and renewed it but it made no difference, having read some of the posts here am i right in saying that the glow plugs are used post start unless it is 0 degrees C. I am in the process of buying a Haynes manual as to identify components and i will using some of the advice in previous posts, thanks in advance.

I have read lots of conflicting information about glow plugs and HDI engines so I decided to do some tests as my C5 2.00 HDI was puffing white smoke at start up. My wife has a 307 also with a 2.00 HDI engine.

At 8?C I monitored glow plug voltages. As soon as the ignition is turned on the glow plugs are activated. If there is no crank then both cars switched off the plugs after 5 seconds or so. The plugs are active again as soon as the engine is cranked and remain powered for more than 2 minutes after starting. The preheat light did not illuminate on the dash. Both cars behaved the same.

As a result I changed the heater plugs in my car. This resulted in improved starting and no more white smoke. Also a 5 second delay between ignition and cranking improves starting on the C5. The Pug just starts anyway.

you need a code read for a start, maybe a full parameter check on cold start.
it could be that the injectors are worn and returning too much fuel or the pressure reg is lazy and letting the high pressure diesel build up.
lets have some more info and tell where you are,if theres anyone recomended near you.

Hi,

I just want to ask if your problem was resolved and if the answer is yes, then How did you make it? Cause my car is suffering as well. Not starting after nights and in cold days... after cranking several times, at some point it fire up, and then after it is ok for the rest of a day...

I will be glad to hear anything from you,
Bye
