So at 3pm today I looked out my office in Glasgow and saw some sleet falling. By 5pm there was definitely some sitting on the cars. By time I left at 5.45 it had all stopped and the wipers removed what was on my windscreen with one wipe.
And then I had to put the radio on..........
There have been snow showers in Glasgow and it is now forecast that this may turn to ice over the course of the evening so the advice is..... only make your journey if its essential....... AArrgghhh! Unfortunately I never caught the bit that said WHO was giving that advice!!
Why oh why is this same line trotted out time and time again!!! And then if we ever do have 4 feet snow drifts no one will believe them!!
For goodness sake, it was a bit of sleet!!!

We had heavier now in Stockport around 15:00 today ;-) I'll be in your kneck of the woods at the weekend though.
I had originally intended leaving this evening for drive south.... did leave at 15:30 as the temperature was 1 degree C and snowing.

The advice normally starts from some police source or other. I wonder how long before marshall law is declared as soon as rain turns to sleet and it becomes a shoot on site policy for those who disobey the ' essential journey " instruction.

You'd have to stop them to determine whether the journey was essential before shooting.
Alternatively, and in keeping with the modern approach, you could just presume guilt and offer a fixed penalty (kneecapping?) which could be declined in favour of an "all or nothing" court appearance.

That would indeed be nearer the mark.

If they had to shoot me I'd prefer them to shoot on "sight" or I would never rest in peace dying as a result of an umoderated typo ! :-)

"I wonder how long before marshall law is declared"
The site manager must be called Marshall.... :)

Oh I missed that one !
I didn't but I couldn't quite put my finger on the joke - shot by Wyatt Earp perhaps?

With the cost of running a car my only journeys are essential. I admit that I could use my bus pass but a one hour trip each way for a 12 mile journey and the difficulty of carrying a week's shopping means the car gets used!

The essential journeys only warning is to try to keep those who cannot cope with wintry conditions off the road. This includes rear-wheel drive cars with fat, summer tyres, no need to mention names.
