Hello
my ford Focus key fob has a collapsed switch, it no longer has a click/feel to it. And i am unable to open car with it as it is constantly tring to lock the car and put immobilser on.
was wondering if it possible to just get another keyfob and swap over the PCB in the key and use the normal reprogramming method for C/L.
And if so where do i stand with the immobilser side of things, is this chip embedded in C/L PCB or is it actually in any other part of key?
Seems silly to have to pay stupid prices for replacement keyfob for the sake of a tiny microswitch
Any advice appreciated

When this happened to SWMBO's zafira blipper I replaced the knackered switch with one bought off eBay for a couple of quid. Focus ones are probably a fairly similar design; if you know someone handy with a soldering iron it's a much cheaper optoion.

Funnily enough, just seen them on ebay now. 2 switches for just over a fiver......may be worth looking at.
will see if anyone has any other suggestions, too.
cheers

I would buy a new unit off eBay and reprogramme it. I think you can programme new keys on the older Focus without taking it to the dealer.
If you opt for swapping the switches round, be careful. Surface mount devices are fiddly to install and especially remove in one piece. Take your time, don't apply to much prolonged heat or you'll unglue the track from the board; if you're impatient and pull it you'll do the same. Smear the board in flux to help solder the new one in, and clean off in isopropanol afterwards.

You can get a replacement remote for £40-odd :
www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/focus_3_button_remote_fob...m
IIRC - if you have two working keys, you should be able to program the new remote to overcome the immobiliser and lock/unlock all the doors.
Be aware that if you attempt to fix your broken remote and damage it such that it no longer works with the immobiliser, you'll then only have one working key which means that you'll have to buy a new key AND get it programmed at a Ford dealer which is quite expensive.

up to now, i know this:
i took the key/fob apart and was basically left with key part, 1 half of fob with PCB and buttons and the other half of fob with Battery.
Car starts with key part and battery part
i therefore assume that i can either:
1. purchase a new fob, set it to my car with the (4 ignition turn trick) putting back together using the rest of my original fob.
2. get a second hand fob and take the metallic spring contact out of tactile switch and put it in my current fob.
Does anyone see a problem with just getting a new 3 button fob and using option 1 above. or am i missing something with the radio frequency of the new fob.
(now the drivers door won't open from outside either, seems to be a bit slow in operating lock inside)

You could probably swap the PCB half of the key/fob and then programme this monster to the car using a second hand fob and method 1.
