At the risk of a verbal lashing over Highway code clause 128, (if you don't know what I'm on about see "mobile phones" thread) has anyone had any experience of in car navigation systems?
Not only the proper dashboard fitted jobbies, but the ~£200? versions which sit on your laptop, map data in the CD drive and use a card in a PCMCIA slot as the GPS device. I believe Sony market such a system.
It seems to me that a driver who "knows" where they are and intended route in an unfamilar area is going to be potentially safer than someone lost and maybe giving more attention on direction finding than hazard spotting.
Lets face it they have not yet invented a signal using lights, hands, whatever for "If the next turning on the right is Station Road I will be turning, otherwise I will continue drifting along in the middle of the road not watching what I'm doing!"
