Thanks for all your help guys, it was fuse number 24 for me! However I guess it could be fuse numbers 1,4,14,24 or 38! However, finding the fuse box was challenging! There are two fuse boxes on the 523i. One in the boot fuses 46-70 and one in the roof of the glovebox fuses 1-45. If you ever get stuck in park and wish a quick temporary fix, lift the gear gaiter out and then the surround, you will see an aluminum lever, with foot on brake and ignition on, this lever will also release the gearbox from park, you can then check fuses at your convienence. But you have to use both hands and one foot to do this, so if you only have one arm, this could be difficult.
