1981 - Brake Lights not working - ja__1
1981 Mini - recently both brake lights have stopped working - any ideas what i can do to cure it??

If both have failed together then I'd suspect a fuse or the switch on the brake pedal.

Hey guys - posted a few days ago saying my brake lights werent working ...
I have a 1981 Austin Mini City

The lights i have since found out are working alernately- sometimes are, sometimes aren't - any ideas what the problem could be and how to solve it? Appreciate the help guys.

Sounds like loose/corroded Earth wires, corroded/dirty/loose bulb seats?

Thanks i'll look into that ..

Haven't had the mini long, and its my first mini- I wasnt sure if it was something to do with the far switch on the dashboard as im not sure what it does ... can anyone enlighten me as to what that switch is??

Maybe they're supplied from the indicator feed :-) Sorry.

Thankfully, the wiring on this vintage of car should be relatively easy to fault-find.

IIRC; the brake switch on the dash only tests the low-fluid light.

Get yourself a simple 12v test-light and just follow the circuit.

Fuse corrosion problems are the root of many Mini electrical gremlins.

Having owned a few Minis I think from memory that the switch on the left is either the brake test, fog lamp, or heated screen switch. As I remember it at least two of these switches won't work.

Thinking about this has made me feel all nostalgic about Minis - talk me out of it someone please before I start looking on Ebay.
