97 1.7 diesel.....Bleeding Hell!! - telecaster
Can anyone tell me the procedure for bleeding a BMW diesel ?

Any time the car runs into reserve it is almost impossible to restart.

When looking at the supply pipe the the diesel can be seen running
In "globs " for want of a better word.

If I do manage to restart the car it drives perfect.

I have tries opening one of the injectors but this does not seem to cure the problem.

sounds like the you have one or more slightly perished fuel hoses, diesels tend to suck air in rather than leak fuel out when hoses start to fail. favourite areas on most dervs are the seal around the fuel filter and the leak off hoses on the injectors, the latter can easily be replaced with some standard rubber fuel hose from a motor factors cut to length. don't know the bmw derv setup so i can't advise on the difficulty of replacing the fuel filter seal.

More like a service problem when did you last change the filter or has already been said the pipes.

Filter was the first port of call, filled new one and fitted it 2 nights ago.

The leak off pipes look ok but will change them anyway.

Is there any way that letting the fuel run low can suck air into the system?

I assumed the system was self bleeding?

on my old Ford diesel running out was a disaster, had to loosen a nut on IP and then crank. I burned out the starter motor twice doing that, so installed an electric pump in line.

Do not even risk running low on diesels - not worth the hassle. Keep it brimmed

There will be a bleed bulb somewhere either on the pump or filter.
