I have installed a lovely new SONY radio /CD in the Galaxy and FM reception seems fine. However, MW and LW is a bit poor and picks up all the interference from Engine electrics. I read that the tyep of aerial fitted to the side window has an amp associated with it which I can power from the radio's electric aerial output.
Question / problem - I can't locate the amp and / or wiring diagram. Haynes are not publishing a manual until December and my Ford garage seem reluctant to print me a copy of this part of the circuit ( I asked at a recent service ). Can anybody advise on the matter please otherwise I'll nip along to the local audio shop and pay them for the pleasure but it must be obvious, surely ?
Many thanks,
Pete

I have a Laguna with built-in rear window aerial.
This has been a bind ever since I've had the car. As soon as I got it, the lead which connects to the aerial fell off. The design is stupid - instead of fixing via a plug/socket arrangement, it is glued on (or soldered on).
And the place on the window where it solders on is virtually impossible to apply solder to - both because of the angle and because of the surface material.
My Renault dealer wasn't at all interested in fixing this (grrr!) even when it was under warranty. I should have pushed it more at the time but my amateur bodgy soldering worked for long enough to take me outside warranty - and I bought the car ex-rental anyway.
Anybody have any idea how to sort this problem? Every few months I slam the boot lid a bit hard (or carry too much luggage in the boot) and it drops off again.

You could try using electrically conducting paint (silver) and epoxy resin to attach the connection physically. Can be bought at most electronic stores e.g. Maplins or ordered by mail. Halfords might do some for fixing demister screens.

Thanks Simon - I will try to get hold of some and see if it does the trick!

I've got one of these rear window amplified aerials on my omega. I dont think its as good as a proper aerial though, reception is average but not excellent. Does anyone else agree?

My Ford Orion used the rear screen heater as the aerial and I had no complaint about the reception.
The lack of an external aerial to get tangled up with car washes and with canoes on the roofrack was a real boon.

I have a similar problem with my BM but the dealer (not my local one) has said that they will replace the whole window as they agree that the AM interference is unacceptable. I will confess to being surprised that they offered to do this as I expected to hear them saying that it was nothing that they could do. Well done to Heathrow BMW
