WD40 - Is it OK to use on seizing brake link - autumnboy
My son's brake linkage is seizing, is OK to use WD40 to initally free it if comes in contact with wheel cylinder rubbers etc.

Then use PTFE type grease/oil for long term use as a prevention of seizing.

Thanks

Yes, it should be OK, wipe off any excess afterwards.

What's the car? Where's the linkage seizing? Is the problem between 2 metal parts?

Copperslip is good for metal on metal, particularly things like pivot pins of handbrake linkages.

To lubricate brake *rubber* components, Lucas used to make tubes of special rubber grease which was fairly widely available.

My tube of rubber grease is about to run out, so, I'll soon see how readily available it is today - my tube has lasted me 10 years!

I got a small tube (about 20ml) from a local motor factors about 3 years ago so it should still be readily available.

I think it's still included in some brake overhaul kits in the little foil packs like condiments in pubs and burger bars.
