If these cars were available at same price, mileage, and condition. Which should be the better buy? Looking to compare 626 2.0 sport against mondy 2.0 ghia.
I like them both!! Looking through ads, 626´s seem slightly better body wise, or am I imagining that!
Opinions please!

I bought my mazda6 six years when its list price, as far as I recall, was £1000 less than the equivalent Mondeo. However, a couple of years later several price comparison checks revealed that it was then worth around £1000 more!
Something to bear mind, perhaps.

Twelve months ago I was looking for a mid size 5 door hatch, with a budget of £1k/£2k. I bought (from HJ classifieds) a Dec '98 626 2.0 SE manual petrol for £995. It had 2 previous owners, FSH and was/is immaculate. Leather, climate, elec roof, 6disc CD and currently averaging 42mpg!
I only drive 5k miles pa and rarely do short runs. To date it has cost me about £600 for a full set of Michelin Energy tyres, which definitely improved mpg, plus a cam belt change and service last month.
Not inspiring to drive, but fast & comfortable with not a spot of rust and lovely metallic blue paintwork. I would probably have bought a Mondeo V6/Primera GT, but none presented themselves at the time!
Am changing it soon for an MX5...I prefer it to my partners company Passat 2.0 Tdi but she is having a minor mid life crisis and wants a rag top for weekends. Who am I to argue.
Summary: Highly recommended.

Your right about body condition - 626 will typically be tidier.
626 will probably also have the edge on reliability (although a well-serviced Mondeo shouldn't be a liability either). However, if things do break, the Mondeo will probably be cheaper to fix - only exception might be 'labour' on a clutch swap.
