Extended Warranty - mikeyb
Partners VW Sharan is coming up to three years old. Just received a letter from VW offering some kind of extended warranty. Car has had nothing done under warranty in the last 3 years / 45K bar faulty parking sensors (which was the kids fault as they dropped a juice cup in the control unit under the passenget seat - dealer told us it was our fault, but fixed under warranty as "goodwill")

We did originaly plan to change it at 3 years, but given the fact its been trouble free to date think we will hold on to it (plus would like to see what the new Sharan is like next year). This leads to a couple of questions - should we just wing it and not bother with the extended warranty, and if we do go with the warranty are they any good (I know some of the aftermarket ones are a bit dubious) Anyone has any experiences of the VW extended warranty programme?

Thanks

Can't offer any advice specific to VW, but as a concept extended warranties are usually just a way to extract money. Whether you choose one or not, you are taking a bet. So if your car has proved reliable, keep up a reasonable level of servicing and keep your warranty cash; or put monthly warranty payments in a piggy-bank and have a good day out when you haven't needed to spend it.
