Can anybody give me an idea on how to remove the blue cap through which the wiring loom runs through on the rear o/s passenger door of a Zafira? I have an issue with the locking and I believe it could be something to do with the wiring running through the door, but I am unable to remove this cap. Thanks Andy.

Is this the blue plastic ring that retains the multipole connector in the front edge of the rear door? If so I twisted and plulled mine out, having been down this road myself last week. I'll bet a virtual pint that the thick brown earth wire and / or the central locking wire ( black with red stripe IIRC) will be damaged.

Got it off, you were right (sort of). The thick red wire, the thick brown wire and the thin black and blue wire all chewed!!! What a cr*ppy design feature if they get caught in the door when shutting. Can these be soldered and the problem rectified? Could this have been the problem with my fuse blowing when I deadlocked the doors? Thanks for the info.

Sort of, I've affected a repair of sorts to the thinner wires by soldering in an extra bit of wire of similar gauge about an inch long. The heavy gauge brown (earth) wire is more of a problem, I wrapped a thinner gauge wire round it as a sort of splint and flooded the lot with solder - this takes a quick hand ( or three) and a fairly beefy soldering iron.

I'm not expecting that joint to last, I'm a tad baffled as to why such a thick earth wire is necessary, when the only electric gubbins in the door are the lock solenoid, window motor and speakers. If my bodge fails then I shall probably run a seperate earth wire between the check link mountings, which seem a pretty good earth. The red wire was not badly damaged on mine, so I just wound one laye rof insulating tape over it.

The proper way to fix it, I would think, is to get a new connector, grommet etc., remove the internal trim from around the B pillar and connect into the loom there.

Yes.

Cheers SpamCan,
I managed to get the wires together using joint blocks and had to split the rubber sleeving to get at them, bit of a struggle, but managed it. All the locks work perfectly now, including the deadlock function. Thanks for your help and advice. Regards Andy

Just in case anyone is wondering about how to undo that connector at the bottom of the door (as I was and I never found the answer.) I eventually discovered that you push the blue part towards the inner part of the door and pull the central white/grey plug out of the centre at the same time. Its obvious once you've done it but the Haynes manual talks about removing a clip (must be a different type of connector.) Yes the electric window on my 02 Zafira is playing up and yes the wiring is split/damaged between the pillar and the door. Soldering iron is coming out again.
