As a rough guide to how many of my previous cars are still running I checked on www.askmid.com how many are currently insured. The only one shown was my last car, a 2 litre petrol Focus. All the rest are "missing, presumably dead".

When I looked at the askmid website, I was asked to tick the box that said "I confirm that the vehicle detailed above is registered, owned or insured by either my employer or myself and is regularly driven by me."
Since my previous cars are not owned by me or my employer, I am unable to answer the question.

Snail, for those who don't want to use askmid, they can use the DVLA site without breeching T&C.
Nice idea, most of mine have disappeared into the car graveyard I fear.
|
I guess - in fact, I would be certain, none. Any that might be would be the two Mercs that were stolen, which I guess have engines that are still running somewhere in Africa.
|
None for me either -- I keep cars until they are comprehensively broken.
Having said that we got rid of a 1987 Sunny in 2003 due to terminal rust. Apparently it was still taxed (or whatever the DVLA's criterion is, I don't recall) in 2006 which really surprised me -- did they put a new body shell on it?

Wow! I thought my moral standards were fairly high, but finding out how high yours are makes me feel like I'm a complete ne'er-do-well!

Curiously my 1948 Triumph Roadster (sold in 1975) is listed on the DVLA site as still extant, but on the other site it has transmuted into a Morris 1100.
But I don't know that of course because I am too honest to tick the high security box.
Nice to see that my Series II LandRover from 1961 is still going strong, as too is my old 1983 Volvo 240.
In fact, on further checking I find that all my previous cars are still on the road apart from my 1954 Triumph Mayflower, sadly scrapped in 1970 by the friend I sold it to because he was emigrating and couldn't find a buyer.

All of my past vehicles are now part of a birds nest in China!
|
I checked about 8 months ago and none of them came up as currently insured so all presumed dead.
Out of six cars I scrapped two and wrote one of them off myself. At the time I was a little surprised my Mk3 Golf has passed on, it was in good nick when I sold it (but it was 5 years ago)..

The Mondeo's probably still going strong in Poland.
My 100k (then) company Focus that I parted company with in late 2005 is still insured.
All the others are dead, but then they were bangers.

My old bike was still registered when I checked recently. Built 1966. Sold in 1973, after I could no longer afford the luxury of mechanised transport, as a student:(

I know the laguna isnt..............

I can account for at least some as they seem to "cascade" through the family. The oldest I can visually track is a 1995 Vauxhall Astra Sport my wife used to have - a strangely satisfying car.
One of my BMWs made a cameo appearance in The Garage - I am certain it was a three series I owned many years ago.
|
|
All of my Metros are now dead as is my Micra.
The MINI is still taxed and insured, as is my Rover 75 that I sold at 225,000 miles over 2.5 years ago - I thought that would have been broken for parts when I traded her in! Bet its done considerably less miles now though :-)
|
|
My old 93 (so a mere child) landcruiser that was written off (don't ask) is still about, and the diesel avensis bought by a taxi firm is still there too, i wonder how many miles on that clock now.

Well checking up on this depresses me somewhat.
I've owned 23 cars since 2000.
Excluding the 2 I currently own, 6 of the cars I scrapped myself leaving a possible 15 which could still be on the road.
Out of that 15 a grand total of 3 are currently insured according to the database.
Most of the cars were late 80's/early 90's models so, with the current scrap prices, its probably to be expected.
