As a disabled driver, holder of a Blue Badge I applied for exemption 2 weeks ago, we go to london beginning of next week. Application for exemption costs £10 (which I regard as fair)
Anyway, rang Transport for London today to find out why I hadn't received any reply. Apparently they didn't like my photocopy of the blue badge, and it has taken them 10 working days to let me know (letter went out today).
However, apparently, my vehicle is already on an exemptions list, as it's a vehicle leased on the motability scheme.
Now I haven't seen anything in any paperwork, from either transport for london nor from Motability that says this is the case. If it is, then I've just wasted £10 on an application I don't need to make.
Anyone else know this?

the £10 charge is a one off for a new registration of an exemption certificate you wont be charged again even when re-newing the cetificate you need to register your car so that when its picked up on the ANPR system it will be flagged as exempt but you must be in reciept of an exemption cert before entering the C-charge zone otherwise you are still liable to the daily charge and you will recieve a ticket if you dont pay it

i just had a look and it also says that any vehicle that is exempt from road tax is automatically exempt and doesnt need registering so your car being a motability car is automatically exempt and you should contact them and tell them to send back you £10 as its already on the system

call 0845 9001234 and choose option 4 to speak to an operator they will confirm your car is already exempt
i just called them and my car is already exempt and i live no where near london

Quite right Welshlad, if your car is tax exempt then you can ignore the congestion charge in London.
Do not, however, think you can park in Chelsea/Fulham according to the usual Blue Badge terms. You have a maximum of 20 minutes on a single yellow line, nothing on a double yellow and most disabled bays are designated for a specific badge holder, with that number painted on the bay.
Some Toll bridges are also exempt - some you show your badge (Severn) and others you give your registration number and they check (Itchen).

I bet they won't send back my £10.

I have been informed, but haven't checked it out myself, that if a vehicle has more than 5 seats, then it is exempt from congestion charge ?
A work colleague's friend has a people carrier 7 seats and apparently he's exempt
