2002 1.6 Starter Motor - Greek Goddess
Hi all

Have had a new battery fitted and new alternator but the car would not start today.
I gave the starter motor a prod and hey presto it started so I'm guessing their lies the problem.
How easy is it to take the starter motor out of a Rover 45 and is it best to replace it with one from a scrapyard as I hear they are very expensive when new?
If anyone could sort this for me in the Greater Manchester area at a reasonable price I'd be most grateful?

Dead easy to do. Jack the passenger wheel up and put on an axle stand, remove the wheel and then its only a case of 4 bolts I think. There are a couple of bolts that you get to from the engine bay as well - 1 that holds it to the engine and the other to remove the wires from the solenoid and earth lead.

You can do it without jacking the car up if you have a set or ramps and its still starting, which makes it even easier.

Scrapyard is of unknown quantity - might work for years or months although if its only a tenner or so then its worth a shot!

The starter motor is only held in with 2 bolts and can be done from above, so no need to remove wheel and arch liner. See me doing in on a mgzs here:
