My car recently failed its MOT on high emissions. I replaced the catalytic converter and it didn?t bring down the emissions and it failed again. Anybody any idea?s what else it could be?
Thanks.

What were the figures on both tests - natural and fast idle?
What tests have you done so far? What's the engine code?

It was for the Irish MOT. I origionly taught it was the cat and changed it out and got the cat retested.
Before the catalytic convertor was changed:
Low Idle (720rpm) CO 0.45vol%, HC 0ppm.
High Idle (2690rpm) Lambda 1.025, CO 0.64vol%(fail), HC 228ppm(fail).
After the catalytic convertor was changed:
Low Idle (740rpm) CO 0.32vol%, HC 0ppm.
High Idle (2690rpm) Lambda 1.023, CO 0.65vol%(fail), HC 227ppm(fail).
Engine code is AHW.

The gases suggest it's too rich; the Lambda too lean. Is there any way you can get it on a 4-gas analyser? Does it run smoothly?
Are there any leaks in the exhaust manifold area? Can you get it plugged-in and the codes/live-data read? The thrust [MAP] and oxygen sensor readings would be useful.

if your going down the guessing route , try lambda sensor
