2000 1.6 intermittent idle & lag on acceleration - avfc

I have a zetec 1.6 - fairly often when the car is stationary and on idle, the rev counter will not stay constant, it will vary from 600rpm - 1000rpm. i think the normal setting is 750rpm. This does not happen all the time but 1 in 4 times, that i stop.

Also when accellerating from low revs - the car often misses, and sounds bubbly!

any ideas where to start?? i have read other posts regarding coil packs - is this likely??
