My mate has been complaining recently of the poor response from the brakes of his A6 Avant. It has new pads and disks all round and has had the brakes bled.
I've driven it and it does seem to need considerable effort on the brake pedal, compared to my dads old A4.
I'm wondering if this is the master cylinder or servo problems

Any advice would be appreciated

Mark

Any sign of water lying under the servo?

If you leave the car over night and then try the brakes without starting the engine and the brakes are poor then as Screwloose I suspect the servo has been under water due to blocked drain bungs and the servo has excessiv corrossion on the lower edge. Expensive. !!! Regards Peter

Any funny noises such as wheezing or squelching when the pedal is first pressed in the morning? This is indicative of the above, but even if you don't hear it, I would still suspect the above.

Theres definitely water under the servo which he's drained off, he can't find any rust
on the servo . I'll get him to check the other issues.

Thanks,

Apparently theres a lot of travel on the brake pedal after leaving the car overnight which reduces after 4 pumps
